About "Urban Emotions"
Why?
Firstly, I'll start with why I made this video. Having travelled around the South East of Canada, I was inspired to make this video. I saw it as a challenge for me, an opportunity to test my ability in being able to convey both story and emotion via the use of solely music without dialogue or text.
My experience in Canada was amazing. I had lots of fun and enjoyed the amazing weather; and no, it's not always snowing in Canada! On my journey I saw the glitz and glam of the cities Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa whilst experiencing the history and heritage of Canada in Quebec and Kingston.

The structure.
My decision to start and end my piece in a sad, more emotional tone was thoroughly thought through. I do believe it will discourage some viewers from watching, however it was necessary for me to include this. The reason is as follows. During my time in Canada, I noticed lots of poverty and high security surrounding the cities. I started my piece with the emotional siren lights and fire brigades as it is to show that there is negativity and disaster in the world and it cannot be ignored. I blended the fire engine light into a shot of candles I saw in the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal to indicate that not everything is what it seems, as the audience assume the shot has moved into another siren light, focus pulls to reveal sacred candles producing light, the premise of our existence as humans. This allowed me to convey that not everything is as it seems, and that underneath the pain and disaster, there is hope.
The mid section allowed me to display the beauty of the country, and to allow the viewers to awe what they see. I then finished by repeating the emotional clips at the beginning at the end but in reverse. This is to remind the audience that whilst the glam and awe of the country is amazing, we must not forget the disaster and pain going on, we must not be consumed by the glamorous way of living to forget what is really going on in the depths of the city.
